FIFA World Cup
Football World Cup or World Cup is often abbreviated as the only (official name: FIFA World Cup) is the most important competition in international football. Organised by Fédération Internationale de Football Association, the regulatory branch of the sport, the World Cup finals tournament is a showcase of the most watched sport in the world, exceeding even the Olympic Games.
The final round tournament (refer to the tournament after qualifying) is held every four years, but championships are taking a two-year period as a whole. More than 160 national teams compete in regional qualifying tournaments to win a place in the finals. The final round is now involving 32 teams (increased from 24 teams in 1998) who competed for 4 weeks in the country designated as the host. Innovations made recently to allow more than one country to host.
The last World Cup held in South Africa on 11 June to 11 July 2010 which was won by Spain and the 2014 FIFA World Cup will be held in Brazil.
